Performing Arts Center Committee Kicks-Off Phase One
(Tallahassee, FL)- At a press conference held on the twenty-second floor of the Capitol today, the Performing Arts Center Committee (PACC) announced the kick-off of Phase One: Pre-Construction Planning for the region's new performing arts center.
Phase One has two steps and is scheduled to be completed in eight months. Step One will take four months and will be completed by the end of April of this year. During this time Theatre Projects Consultants (TPC) will meet with community arts, government, business and education leaders as part of a community arts needs assessment. A public input meeting will also be held on Tuesday, February 15 at 7 pm at the Florida Department of Transportation Auditorium. From these meetings and assessments, TPC will make a recommendation as to the type, size and number of seats needed.
Step two will take place from May to August. During this time TPC will take the information gathered in step one and make recommendations regarding the location options available to the community. A second public meeting will be held on Monday, April 11 at 7 pm at the LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library.
"The key to success is community dialogue. Local performing groups and taxpayers must guide decision-making" said Paula Smith, Performing Arts Center Committee Chair. "At the heart of Phase One is community participation. Through this process we will successfully develop a plan and create a performing arts center that is both a cultural and an economic asset."
The Performing Arts Center Committee was appointed as a special advisory committee for the City and County. They are charged with developing a plan for the construction of a performing arts venue. This plan is to make recommendations regarding site location and size as well as design recommendations and a timeline for construction phases. Additionally the PACC will provide an operating, funding and management plan.
In December the PACC announced the hiring of Theatre Projects Consultants (TPC). TPC is a consulting firm with more than forty-seven years of experience with a staff of theatre designers, planners, arts administrators and technical systems experts who collectively offer a comprehensive approach to performance space design. TPC has been hired to complete Phases One of this project.
